Both sides discuss early conclusion of the interim trade agreement: Jaishankar

PT News New Delhi, May 24

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio on Sunday said the pending India-US trade deal is on the “verge” of happening. Rubio was addressing a joint press conference with External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar in New Delhi after the two held a bilateral meeting covering multiple issues of technology and energy, among others.

“We are on the verge of making that happen,” Rubio said when asked about the pending trade deal between the two countries. In the absence of a structured deal, India is paying higher tariffs for goods entering the US and some of it is linked to buying Russian crude. Rubio said the US is hopeful that the US Trade Representative can visit India very soon.

“We have made tremendous progress, and I think we’re going to wind up with a trade agreement between the US and India,” he said, adding that it would be enduring and beneficial to both sides. Jaishankar said the two sides today spoke about the value of concluding at an early date the final text of the interim agreement regarding reciprocal and mutually beneficial trade.

“This will be an important step towards a comprehensive bilateral trade agreement which was envisaged during Prime Minister Modi’s visit in February 2025,” he said. Rubio, responding to another question, said there is $20 billion of Indian investment in the US economy, and that this number continues to grow. On trade, Rubio clarified that it is not about India specifically, but about the US.

“President (Donald Trump) did not say let’s figure out a way to create friction with India over trade.” He said the President had stated that “we have a trade situation involving the US economy that doesn’t work moving forward. There’s a huge imbalance that’s built up, and it needs to be addressed,” and that he pursued it from a global perspective.

‘Iran can never possess nuclear weapon Hormuz reopening part of talks’: Rubio

Detailing the terms of the expected peace deal between the United States and Iran, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio on Sunday said Iran can never possess a nuclear weapon and that President Donald Trump remains firm on the issue. He also said that reopening the Strait of Hormuz forms part of the negotiations, without any toll being imposed on ships using the route. Referring to the Strait of Hormuz, Rubio said, “This is an international waterway; they don’t own it. What they are doing now is basically threatening to disrupt commercial vessels using an international waterway.”

Manisha Sanjay Havaldar, principal of a Pune school arrested in the NEET-UG paper leak case, allegedly shared examination-related questions and content with a few students for money, the CBI told a court here, sources said on Sunday. The federal agency made the submission while seeking her transit remand, they said. The Central Bureau of Intelligence (CBI) arrested Havaldar on Friday, calling her another source of the alleged paper leak. Havaldar, the principal of Seth Hiralal Saraf Prashala, worked as an empanelled translator for physics for NEET UG-2026. Following her arrest, she was produced before a court in Pune and is currently in transit remand. She is likely to be produced in a court in Delhi on Monday. The CBI informed the Pune court that its investigation into the case had revealed that Havaldar, in collusion with botany teacher Manisha Mandhare, now in custody, allegedly shared NEET-related questions and content with a few students in exchange for monetary benefits. Sources said the CBI told the court that handwritten notes containing NEET-related questions were prepared and retained by Havaldar during her NTA (National Testing Agency) assignment.

ਚੰਡੀਗੜ੍ਹ, 24 ਮਈ- ਪੰਜਾਬ ਦੇ ਮੁੱਖ ਮੰਤਰੀ ਭਗਵੰਤ ਸਿੰਘ ਮਾਨ ਨੇ ਅੱਜ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਦੇ ਵਿਭਿੰਨ ਖੇਡਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਖੇਡ ਸਮਾਗਮ ਦੌਰਾਨ ਮਹਾਰਾਜਾ ਰਣਜੀਤ ਸਿੰਘ ਐਵਾਰਡ ਜੇਤੂ 87 ਖਿਡਾਰੀਆਂ ਅਤੇ 1,070 ਜੇਤੂ ਜਿੱਤਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਖਿਡਾਰੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ 32.05 ਕਰੋੜ ਰੁਪਏ ਦੀ ਇਨਾਮੀ ਰਾਸ਼ੀ ਨਾਲ ਸਨਮਾਨਿਤ ਕੀਤਾ। ਇਸ ਮੌਕੇ ਮੁੱਖ ਮੰਤਰੀ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਅੰਤਰਰਾਸ਼ਟਰੀ ਖੇਡ ਮੈਦਾਨਾਂ ਤੱਕ ਸੂਬੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਖੇਡਾਂ ਲਈ ਵਿਆਪਕ ਮਾਹੌਲ ਕੀਤਾ। ਪੰਜਾਬ ਨੂੰ ਉੱਭਰਦੀ ਖੇਡ ਸ਼ਕਤੀ ਦੱਸਦਿਆਂ ਮੁੱਖ ਮੰਤਰੀ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਸਰਕਾਰ ਨੇ ਨਾ ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਓਲੰਪਿਕ ਅਤੇ ਏਸ਼ੀਆਈ ਖੇਡਾਂ ਦੇ ਮੈਡਲ ਜੇਤੂਆਂ ਨੂੰ 1-1 ਕਰੋੜ ਰੁਪਏ ਨਾਲ ਸਨਮਾਨਿਤ ਕੀਤਾ ਸਗੋਂ 9 ਖਿਡਾਰੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਨੌਕਰੀਆਂ ਪ੍ਰਦਾਨ ਕੀਤੀਆਂ ਹਨ। ਪਹਿਲੀ ਵਾਰ ਟੂਰਨਾਮੈਂਟ ਦੀ ਤਿਆਰੀ ਲਈ 220 ਖਿਡਾਰੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ 8.61 ਕਰੋੜ ਰੁਪਏ ਦੀ ਸਿੱਧੇ ਬੈਂਕ ਖਾਤਿਆਂ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਵਿੱਤੀ ਸਹਾਇਤਾ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਗਈ। ਮਾਨ ਕਿਹਾ ਮੇਜਰ-35 ਵਿੱਚ ਸਿੱਖਿਆ ਖੇਡਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਸਮਾਗਮ ਦੌਰਾਨ ਖੇਡਾਂ ਦੇ ਬੇਹਤਰ ਇਨਫਰਾਸਟ੍ਰਕਚਰ ਬਣਾਉਣ ਦਾ ਜ਼ਿਕਰ ਕਰਦਿਆਂ ਮੁੱਖ ਮੰਤਰੀ ਮਾਨ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਸਾਲ 2026-27 ਲਈ 1,763 ਕਰੋੜ ਰੁਪਏ ਦੇ ਵਿਭਿੰਨਖੇਡ ਖੇਡਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਖੇਡ ਪਹਿਲ ‘ਤੇ ਖੇਡ ਪਹਿਲ ‘ਤੇ ਨਿਯਾਰਾਜਨ ਲਈ 1,300 ਕਰੋੜ ਰੁਪਏ ਦੀ ਲਾਗਤ ਨਾਲ 3,148 ਖੇਡ ਮੈਦਾਨ ਵਿਕਾਸ ਕਰਨ ਦਾ ਐਲਾਨ ਕੀਤਾ। ਮੁੱਖ ਮੰਤਰੀ ਨੇ ਅੱਗੇ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਪਹਿਲੀ ਵਾਰ ਏਸ਼ੀਅਨ ਚੈਂਪੀਅਨ ਟਰਾਫ਼ੀ ਦੀ ਮੇਜ਼ਬਾਨੀ ਕਰੇਗਾ ਅਤੇ ਇਹ ਨੌਜਵਾਨ ਨੂੰ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਵਿੱਚ ‘ਤੇ ਭਾਰਤ-ਪਾਕਿਸਤਾਨ ਦਰਮਿਆਨ ਗਹਿਰਾਈ ਮਹਾਰਾਜਾ ਰਣਜੀਤ ਸਿੰਘ ਐਵਾਰਡ ਜੇਤੂ 87 ਖਿਡਾਰੀਆਂ ਅਤੇ 1,070 ਜੇਤੂ ਜਿੱਤਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਖਿਡਾਰੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ 32.05 ਕਰੋੜ ਰੁਪਏ ਦੀ ਇਨਾਮੀ ਰਾਸ਼ੀ ਨਾਲ ਸਨਮਾਨਿਤ ਕੀਤਾ। ਸਨਮਾਨਿਤ ਕੀਤਾ ਗਿਆ। ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਕਿਹਾ, “ਪੰਜਾਬ ਦੇ ਖਿਡਾਰੀਆਂ ਨੇ ਪਹਿਲੀ ਵਾਰ ਸਰਕਾਰ ਨੇ ਖਿਡਾਰੀਆਂ ਵਿੱਚ 32.05 ਕਰੋੜ ਰੁਪਏ ਦੀ ਇਨਾਮੀ ਰਾਸ਼ੀ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਹੈ। ਪੰਜਾਬ ਸਰਕਾਰ ਨੇ ਨਾ ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਓਲੰਪਿਕ ਅਤੇ ਏਸ਼ੀਆਈ ਖੇਡਾਂ ਦੇ ਮੈਡਲ ਜੇਤੂਆਂ ਨੂੰ 1-1 ਕਰੋੜ ਰੁਪਏ ਨਾਲ ਸਨਮਾਨਿਤ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ, ਸਗੋਂ 9 ਮੈਡਲ ਜੇਤੂ ਖਿਡਾਰੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਨੌਕਰੀਆਂ ਵੀ ਪ੍ਰਦਾਨ ਕੀਤੀਆਂ ਹਨ।” ਮੁੱਖ ਮੰਤਰੀ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ, “ਪੰਜਾਬ ਦੇ ਖਿਡਾਰੀਆਂ ਨੇ ਅੰਤਰਰਾਸ਼ਟਰੀ ਪੱਧਰ ‘ਤੇ ਆਪਣੀਆਂ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤੀਆਂ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਦੇਸ਼ ਅਤੇ ਸੂਬੇ ਦਾ ਬਹੁਤ ਮਾਣ ਵਧਾਇਆ ਹੈ। ਇਹ ਸਾਡੀ ਜ਼ਿੰਮੇਵਾਰੀ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਅਸੀਂ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਮਜ਼ਬੂਤੀ ਨਾਲ ਖੜ੍ਹੇ ਰਹੀਏ ਅਤੇ ਇਹ ਯਕੀਨੀ ਬਣਾਈਏ ਕਿ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਉਹ ਸਹੂਲਤਾਂ, ਮਾਨਤਾ ਅਤੇ ਸਿੱਖਿਆ ਮਿਲੇ ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਉਹ ਹੱਕਦਾਰ ਹਨ।” ਪੰਜਾਬ ਸਰਕਾਰ ਦੇ ਖੇਡਾਂ ਪ੍ਰਤੀ ਇਨਫਰਾਸਟ੍ਰਕਚਰ ਦਾ ਜ਼ਿਕਰ ਕਰਦਿਆਂ ਮੁੱਖ ਮੰਤਰੀ ਭਗਵੰਤ ਸਿੰਘ ਮਾਨ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਪਹਿਲੀ ਵਾਰ ਖੇਡਾਂ ਦੇ 220 ਖਿਡਾਰੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਸਿੱਧੇ ਬੈਂਕ ਖਾਤਿਆਂ ਰਾਹੀਂ 8.61 ਕਰੋੜ ਰੁਪਏ ਦਿੱਤੇ ਗਏ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ, “ਪੰਜਾਬ ਸਰਕਾਰ ਨੇ ਖੇਡਾਂ ਬਾਰੇ ਇੱਕ ਖੇਡਾਂ ਦੇ ਗ੍ਰਾਂਟਸ ਲਈ ਅਤੇ ਅਲੋਕੇਟਡ ਦੇ ਵਿਕਾਸ ਲਈ ਵਿੱਤੀ ਸਾਲ 2026-27 ਲਈ 1,763 ਕਰੋੜ ਰੁਪਏ ਦਾ ਰਿਕਾਰਡ ਬਜਟ ਅਲਾਟ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ।

Several states grappled with scorching heat on Sunday, with Uttar Pradesh’s Banda again emerging as the hottest place in the country at 46.8 degrees Celsius, according to the Indian Meteorological Department. The weather office, however, forecast gradual relief from the heat from May 29. “Heatwave to severe heatwave conditions are expected to persist over Central and Northwest India during the next seven days, and over East and adjoining Peninsular India for the next three to five days,” the IMD said in its forecast. Delhi recorded a maximum temperature of 43.6 degrees Celsius, 3.4 notches above the season’s average. Ayanagar and the Ridge weather stations recorded 44.6 degrees Celsius each, followed by Lodhi Road at 43.8 degrees, Palam at 43.7 degrees and Safdarjung at 43.6 degrees Celsius. In Uttar Pradesh, Lucknow recorded a maximum of 42.6 degrees Celsius, 2.4 degrees above normal, and a minimum temperature of 28.7 degrees Celsius, 3.2 degrees above normal. Banda was the hottest place at 46.8 degrees Celsius, 3.3 degrees above normal. Prayagraj, Orai and Jansi each recorded 45.6 degrees Celsius, Agra recorded 45.4 degrees and Hamirpur recorded a maximum temperature of 45.2 degrees Celsius.

ਹੈਰੋਇਨ ਦੀ ਇਹ ਖੇਪ ਬਰਾਮਦ ਕਰਨ ਤੋਂ ਇਲਾਵਾ ਪੁਲਿਸ ਟੀਮ ਨੇ ਮੁਲਜ਼ਮਾਂ ਦੀ ਪੁੱਛਗਿੱਛ ਕਰਕੇ ਵੀ ਕਈ ਹੋਰ ਕੜੀ ਹੈ, ਜਿਹੜੀ ਵਰਤੋਂ ਉਹ ਨਸ਼ਾ ਤਸਕਰੀ ਲਈ ਕਰ ਰਹੇ ਸਨ। ਡੀਜੀਪੀ ਗੌਰਵ ਯਾਦਵ ਨੇ ਦੱਸਿਆ ਕਿ ਮੁੱਢਲੀ ਜਾਂਚ ਤੋਂ ਪਤਾ ਲੱਗਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਇਸ ਮਾਡਿਊਲ ਦੇ ਵਿਦੇਸ਼ੀ ਤਸਕਰਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਹੈਂਡਲਰਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਸਬੰਧ ਸਨ, ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਕਥਿਤ ਤੌਰ ‘ਤੇ ਗ੍ਰਿਫਤਾਰ ਮੁਲਜ਼ਮਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਭਾਰਤੀ ਖੇਤਰ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਨਸ਼ੀਲੇ ਪਦਾਰਥਾਂ ਦੀ ਖੇਪ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰਕੇ ਇਸਨੂੰ ਅੱਗੇ ਵੰਡਣ ਦਾ ਕੰਮ ਸੌਂਪਿਆ ਸੀ। ਡੀਜੀਪੀ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਇਸ ਮਾਮਲੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਅਗਲੇ-ਪਿਛਲੇ ਸਬੰਧਾਂ ਦਾ ਪਤਾ ਲਗਾਉਣ ਲਈ ਹੋਰ ਜਾਂਚ ਕੀਤੀ ਜਾ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ ਤਾਂ ਜੋ ਸਰਹੱਦ ਪਾਰੋਂ ਨਸ਼ਾ ਤਸਕਰੀ ਦੇ ਸਮੁੱਚੇ ਨੈੱਟਵਰਕ ਦਾ ਪਾਜਾ ਕੀਤਾ ਜਾ ਸਕੇ।

ਐਸਐਸਪੀ ਸੀਆਈ ਫਿਰੋਜ਼ਪੁਰ ਗੁਰਮੇਲ ਸਿੰਘ ਨੇ ਦੱਸਿਆ ਕਿ ਪੁਲਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਬੱਗੀ ਬਗੀਚਾ ਸਿੰਘ, ਭੁਪਿੰਦਰ ਸਿੰਘ, ਸਾਜਨ ਅਤੇ ਫਿਰਦੌਸ ਪਾਲ ਬੂਟਾ ਸਿੰਘ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਕੁਝ ਦਿਨ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਸਰਹੱਦ ਪਾਰੋਂ ਹੈਰੋਇਨ ਦੀ ਖੇਪ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕੀਤੇ ਜਾਣ ਸਬੰਧੀ ਭਰੋਸੇਯੋਗ ਜਾਣਕਾਰੀ ਮਿਲੀ ਸੀ। ਜਾਣਕਾਰੀ ‘ਚ ਇਹ ਵੀ ਪਤਾ ਲੱਗਾ ਕਿ ਆਪਣੇ ਹੈਂਡਲਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਨਿਰਦੇਸ਼ਾਂ ‘ਤੇ ਉਕਤ ਲੋਕ ਵਿਅਕਤੀ ਇਹ ਖੇਪ ਅੱਗੇ ਕਿਸੇ ਹੋਰ ਪਿੰਡ ਨੂੰ ਪਹੁੰਚਾਉਣ ਜਾ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ, ਜਿਸ ‘ਤੇ ਤੁਰੰਤ ਕਾਰਵਾਈ ਕਰਦਿਆਂ ਪੁਲਿਸ ਟੀਮ ਨੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਹਰ ਸਹਾਏ ਦੇ ਖੇਤਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਛਾਪੇਮਾਰੀ ਕਰਕੇ ਪਿੰਡ ਬੂਥੇ ਵਾਲਾ ਦੇ ਖੇਤਰ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ 28.12 ਕਿਲੋਗ੍ਰਾਮ ਹੈਰੋਇਨ ਅਤੇ 9.5 ਲੱਖ ਰੁਪਏ ਦੀ ਡਰੱਗ ਮਨੀ ਬਰਾਮਦ ਕਰ ਲਈ।

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann on Sunday unveiled one of the biggest sports promotion drives in Punjab’s history, honouring 87 Maharaja Ranjit Singh Awardees and 1,070 medal-winning ath-letes with prize money worth Rs. 32.05 crore while announcing a sweeping expansion of the state’s sports ecosystem from vil-lages to international are-nas. Positioning Punjab as an emerging sports power-house, the Chief Minister the Punjab Government has not only honoured Olympic and Asian Games medalists with Rs.1 crore each and provided jobs to nine play-ers, but has also, for the first time, extended direct financial assistance worth Rs.8.61 crore to 220 players for tournament preparation. Making a decisive shift from token recognition to struc-tural investment in sports, CM Bhagwant Singh Mann announced a record sports budget of Rs.1,763 crore for 2026-27 and the develop-ment of 3,148 rural sports grounds at a cost of Rs.1,300 crore to nurture talent at the grassroots.

The Chief Minister fur-ther declared that Punjab will host the Asian Champions Trophy for the first time, with the high-volt-age India-Pakistan clash set to be played on Punjab Day. Taking a dig at previous regimes, CM Bhagwant Singh Mann said Punjab, despite producing count-less champions for the country, was never earlier given the opportunity to host a major sporting event, while sports associations remained dominated by politically connected indi-viduals instead of genuine players.

Addressing a grand felicitation ceremony, CM Bhagwant Singh Mann said the day marked a historic moment for Punjab as 87 players were conferred with the prestigious Maharaja Ranjit Singh Award while 1,070 medal-winning sportspersons from differ-ent disciplines were also honoured. “For the first time in Punjab’s history, the gov-ernment has distributed prize money worth Rs.32.05 crore among players through cheques. The Punjab Government has not only honoured Olympic and Asian Games medalists with Rs.1 crore each but has also provided jobs to nine medal-winning players,” he added.

The Chief Minister noted, “The players of Punjab have brought immense pride to the country and the state through their achievements on international platforms. It is our responsibility to stand firmly with them and ensure they receive the respect, recognition, and support they deserve.” Highlighting the Punjab Government’s sports vision, CM Bhagwant Singh Mann said that for the first time, 220 players in Punjab were granted Rs.8.61 crore to pre-pare for tournaments. “The Punjab Government has allocated a record sports budget of Rs.1,763 crore for the financial year 2026-27 to strengthen sports infra-structure and athlete devel-opment across the state. To nurture talented players in villages, 3,148 rural sports grounds are being devel-oped at a cost of Rs.1,300 crore. These grounds will become guiding lights for emerging players from rural Punjab,” he added.

The Chief Minister said Punjab will host the Asian Champions Trophy for the first time, calling it a proud moment for the state’s sporting legacy. He further announced that the much-anticipated India-Pakistan match during the tourna-ment will be held on Punjab Day. “Punjab has given countless medals and cham-pions to the nation, yet ear-lier governments never ensured that the state got the opportunity to host major international sport-ing events. We have changed that mindset and brought Punjab to the cen-tre of India’s sporting map,” CM Bhagwant Singh Mann said.

Africa CDC Declares Public Health Emergency of Continental Security

In light of the reported outbreaks of Ebola Disease in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) and Uganda, the World Health Organization (WHO), under the International Health Regulations (IHR), 2005, on 17 May 2026, determined the situation to be a Public Health Emergency of International Concern (PHEIC). The Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) has also officially declared the ongoing outbreak of Bundibugyo strain Ebola Virus Disease affecting the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Uganda as a Public Health Emergency of Continental Security with documented Bundibugyo virus detection”. Further, the WHO IHR Emergency Committee on 22 May 2026 issued temporary recommendations to strengthen disease surveillance at Points of Entry to “detect, assess, report and manage travellers with unex-plained febrile illness arriving from areas with docu-mented Bundibugyo virus detection” while also “dis-couraging travel to areas Countries bordering the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Uganda, including South Sudan, are assessed to be at high risk of disease transmission. Ebola Disease is a viral haemorrhagic fever caused by infection with the Bundibugyo virus strain of Ebola Virus. It is a serious disease with a high mortality rate. At present, no vaccines or specific treatments have been approved to prevent or treat Ebola Disease caused by the Bundibugyo virus strain. India has not reported any case of Ebola Disease caused by the Bundibugyo virus strain.

In view of the evolving situa-tion in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and other affected countries, and in line with WHO’s recom-mendations, Government of India advises all Indian citi-zens to avoid non-essential travel to the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Uganda and South Sudan until further notice. Indian citizens currently residing in or travelling to these coun-tries are advised to strictly follow public health guid-ance issued by local authori-ties and maintain heightened precautions.

In a major breakthrough amidst the ongoing drive to make Punjab a drug free state, Counter Intelligence (CI) Ferozepur has busted a cross-border drug smuggling module with the arrest of four accused persons and recovered 28.12 kg heroin along with ?9.5 lakh drug money from their possession, said Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab Gaurav Yadav here on Sunday.

Those arrested have been identified as Bagicha singh and Bhupinder singh, both residents of village Boghi Wala in Guru Har Sahai; Sajan, a resident of village Araiyan Wala; and Chhinder Pal Singh alias Rinku, a resident of Lakha Singh Wala in Ferozepur. Apart from recov-ering the big haul of heroin, the police team has also impounded their Hyundai Creta car, which they were using to smuggle narcotics. DGP Gaurav Yadav said that preliminary investigation has revealed that the module had links with foreign-based smugglers and handlers, who had allegedly tasked the artested accused persons with retrieving and further distributing the narcotics consignment within Indian territory. The DGP said that further investigation is under-way to establish both forward and backward linkages in this case dismantle the entire cross-border drug smuggling network. Sharing operational details, AIG CI Ferozepur Gursewak Singh said that a reliable input was received regarding suspects Bagicha Singh Bhupinder Singh, Sajan and Chhinder Pal alias Rinku having retrieved consignment of heroin delivers from across the border a few days back.
