Municipal Corporation Amritsar (MCA) has continued to register significant progress in the scientific management and process- ing of municipal solid waste across the city during the month of May 2026. The sustained sanitation and waste processing efforts are being carried out under the guidance of the Comm issioner, MCA Bikramjit Singh Shergill with a focus on environmental sustain- ability, scientific segrega- tion, resource recovery, and improved urban cleanli- ness.According to official data compiled up to May 24,

2026, the city has processed a substantial quantity of municipal waste through various scientific treatment streams including bio-soil generation, construction and demolition (C&D) waste processing, Refuse Derived Fuel (RDF) preparation, and other waste management mechanisms. The cumula- tive waste management fig- ures indicate that till April 30, 2026, MCA had already handled approximately 5,72,945 metric tonnes of waste, out of which nearly 4,47,839.60 metric tonnes were scientifically proces sed into bio-soil and related recoverable resources. In addition, significant quanti- ties were diverted toward C&D processing, RDF gener- ation, and other sustainable

disposal mechanisms. During May 2026, daily waste handling remained consistently high, reflecting the efficiency of the city’s sanitation network and operational workforce. On several days, waste collec- tion and processing crossed the 4,000 metric tonne mark. The highest daily quantity during the period was recorded on May 6, 2026, when approximately 4,460 metric tonnes of waste were managed through various processing channels. As per the updat- ed cumulative figures till May 24, 2026, MCA has suc- cessfully handled nearly 6,73,270 metric tonnes of waste overall. Out of this: * Approximately 5,23,083.30 metric tonnes have been processed into bio-soil and related recyclable output. * Around 30,861 metric tonnes have been managed under the C&D waste cate- gory. * Nearly 36,514.62 metric tonnes have been converted into RDF for alternative fuel utilization. * About 83,667.43 metric tonnes fall under other sci- entific waste management and processing streams. Officials stated that the con- tinued emphasis on segre-

gation, transportation effi- ciency, landfill load reduc- tion, and scientific disposal practices has significantly strengthened the city’s sani- tation framework. MCA teams, sanitation workers, field supervisors, and oper- ational staff have been working continuously to ensure timely lifting, trans- portation, and processing of municipal waste generated across all zones of the city. The Municipal Corporation reiterated its commitment toward achiev- ing cleaner surroundings, environmental protection, and sustainable urban waste management in line with the objectives of the Swachh Bharat Mission and modern scientific sanitation standards.
